The foundation of every Studio Disoul spine staircase is a heavy-duty 100×100mm box section steel beam — the structural spine — custom-fabricated to the precise dimensions of your project. The primary beam is hand-welded in our London facility and secured to your floor and ceiling using high-tensile bolts, creating a foundation of exceptional rigidity. Unlike traditional designs that rely on multiple support points, this single central element transfers all structural loads through one core.
Each tread is individually crafted to your specifications, transforming the central spine into a refined architectural composition. Cladding options for your spine staircase include: · Solid Oak (20mm) — Hand-selected European or American oak, available in straight, rift-cut or character grain finishes for a timeless, warm aesthetic. · Natural Stone — Marble, travertine, limestone or basalt mounted on a precision-engineered 10mm steel plate base, creating a luxurious finish.
The balustrade defines both the safety profile and visual character of your spine staircase. Studio Disoul offers two custom systems, each engineered to UK safety standards: · Tempered Glass Balustrades — Available in 10mm, 15mm, 18mm or 21mm thicknesses, our UK-standard glass panels create a transparent, light-filled aesthetic that allows the central spine to remain the dominant visual element. · Bespoke Metal Balustrades — Hand-fabricated steel in any RAL colour.
The handrail completes your spine staircase, offering both functional safety and a final design statement. Choose from two options: · Solid Oak Handrails — Hand-shaped from premium European oak, finished to match your tread cladding for a unified aesthetic. · Bespoke Metal Handrails — Powder-coated steel in any RAL colour, available in round, square or custom profile sections. The entire metal structure can be powder-coated in any colour from the RAL chart for full customisation.
